934 new homes are coming to Dundrum—but what will this mean for your area, services, and daily life? Here’s what’s planned and why it matters now.
An Coimisiún Pleanála has given permission to build 934 homes at Dundrum Central. This site was once the Central Mental Hospital.
The Land Development Agency (LDA) and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council (DLRCoCo) put this plan together. They also spoke with people in the local community.
The project will include:
- 753 affordable homes to buy or rent and
- 181 social homes
There will be different types of homes. These include apartments, duplexes, and houses.
They are for single people, families, older people, first-time buyers, and renters.
Dundrum Central will also have:
- a community centre and sports space
- a medical centre
- shops and a café
- a crèche and
- a public plaza
In 2023, An Bord Pleanála gave permission for a similar plan with 852 homes. The plan did not go ahead due to a legal case.
After feedback from the public, the new plan has lower buildings. They will be between 2 and 8 storeys high.
NOTE: Site clearance work commenced in February 2026.
